UK Cabinet Office Pushes Procurement Overhaul to Boost SME Access and Transparency
The UK government is advancing sweeping reforms under the Procurement Act 2023, with implementation underway to create a simpler, more transparent public contracting system. Central to this effort is expanding SME participation by streamlining bidding processes, enhancing visibility of opportunities, and reducing red tape for smaller suppliers.
The reforms will consolidate dozens of procurement frameworks into a unified platform—'Find a Tender'—which mandates greater transparency around contract pipelines, award rationales, and performance outcomes. Additionally, a new “debarment register” and clear standards for conflict-of-interest disclosures aim to ensure accountability in how taxpayer funds are spent.
